In states that have adopted electronic certification (FMCSA's National Registry II), results for CDL and CLP drivers are submitted through the National Registry and transmitted to the state driver licensing agency — so qualified drivers stay legal without a separate trip to the DMV. We provide documentation for your files either way.

Drivers operating a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce must hold a valid medical examiner's certificate, and employers must verify current certification before allowing safety-sensitive work.

The examination must be performed by a medical examiner listed on the FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. All of DSC's examiners are.
How long a card lasts
A certificate is valid for up to 24 months. The examiner may certify for a shorter period — commonly 12 months or less — when a monitored condition (hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea, or a certification pending specialist clearance) requires closer follow-up.
Certification reporting (National Registry II)
In states that have implemented the National Registry's electronic certification, examiners submit CDL and CLP results through the National Registry and FMCSA transmits the certification to the state driver licensing agency; while the state-by-state rollout is completed, a paper certificate may still be issued and carried. Non-CDL drivers continue to receive a paper Medical Examiner's Certificate (Form MCSA-5876).
