SAP Coordination
When a driver violates DOT drug or alcohol rules, they can't return to duty without completing the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) process. Our qualified SAP on staff handles it end to end — the evaluation, the recommended education or treatment, the return-to-duty test, and the follow-up plan.
A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluates a driver after a DOT drug or alcohol violation and directs the return-to-duty process. Our qualified SAP performs the evaluation and manages the case in-house.
A DOT drug or alcohol violation removes a driver from safety-sensitive duty until they complete the return-to-duty process — and that process runs through a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). It's detailed, easy to stall, and unforgiving of a missed step. We handle it in-house so the driver has a clear path back and you stay compliant.
A qualified SAP on staff
We have a qualified Substance Abuse Professional on staff. Our SAP evaluates the driver, recommends education or treatment, verifies compliance, and prescribes the follow-up testing plan — the full evaluation and the case management, from one partner.
We manage every step
• The SAP evaluation and recommendations
• Tracking the education or treatment and the follow-up assessment
• The directly observed return-to-duty test once the driver is cleared
• The SAP-prescribed follow-up plan, handed to our testing team so nothing slips
One case, one partner
Instead of juggling an outside SAP, the clinic, and the follow-up schedule, you have one team holding the whole process together — evaluation and testing under the same roof.

Compliance Requirements
Compliance Requirement
The SAP process — 49 CFR Part 40, Subpart O
After a DOT drug or alcohol violation, a driver may not perform safety-sensitive functions until they have been evaluated by a qualified Substance Abuse Professional, complied with the SAP's recommended education or treatment, and been re-evaluated by the SAP.
Return-to-duty and follow-up
Only after the SAP determines compliance can the driver take a directly observed return-to-duty test. The SAP then prescribes a follow-up testing plan — a minimum of 6 tests in the first 12 months, extendable up to 60 months.
SAP qualifications
A SAP must meet the specific credential and training requirements of 49 CFR 40.281. Our Substance Abuse Professional meets that standard.
